My approach to the massage
therapy profession is very similar to my approach to life;
try to remain open, treat people with respect and dignity
and don't take myself too seriously. This does not mean
I do not take my clients seriously, I just believe that
it's important to always leave room for the unexpected and
for humor.
I received
my massage therapy certification in 1988 from the Chicago
School of Massage Therapy and
have been practicing massage therapy ever since. I utilized
a variety of "techniques" such as acupressure, trigger
point therapy, Esalen, Swedish, reflexology and deep tissue.
I also received a BA in Anthropology in 1999 which I feel
informs my practice in subtle ways. I am also an active member
of the
American
Massage Therapy Association.
My clients
have included CEO's of Fortune 500 companies, police officers,
actors, comedians, homemakers, people from every walk of life.
They have also included CEO's who are poets, homemakers who
are running for congress and comedians who enjoy discussing
theoretical physics. My point is that we are not our jobs
or our families or whatever it is with which we fill our days.
My intent
is to approach each client with an open mind and heart. Because
of my years in the field, I have work with many types of people,
in a variety of situations and have discovered that there
really isn't a "type" of person, so I treat each
person as an individual.
Everyone is
unique, and especially because every massage therapist's touch
is as unique as a fingerprint, I understand that not everyone
will "mesh" with my touch or style of massage. That
is why I offer first time clients an extra 15 minutes for
any table massage of 30 minutes or more (does not apply gift
certificates). While my style of massage may not be for everyone,
massage therapy IS for everyone and we in the Triangle area
have an abundance of talented massage therapists and body
workers.
Whether it
be a 30 minute seated chair massage (see Onsite
Massage)
or an 1½ table massage, the benefits can be as simple
as relief from a nagging headache to a profound attitude shift
as one's body and mind begin to let go of worries and stress.
Many of my clients have expressed that after their massage
they were able to resolve or get clarity on a situation or
problem that had been troubling them. I believe this happens
because they have been able to relax enough to let the creative,
non-linear part of their brains do its job; to be able to
think outside the box.
I feel a profound
gratitude to have found this profession and to be able to
practice in a community that is full of creative, hard working,
intelligent, funny, conscious and becoming more conscious
folks.
With deep
respect,
Virginia

From
the Tao Te Ching, Stephen Mitchell translation
The Master sees all beings arising from the same source,
working out their karma (usually with great suffering), and
returning to the source. And since people are in constant
flux, understand that at any moment they are capable of the
most astonishing spiritual transformations. Why should I pin
them motionless with a judgment of "good" or "bad".
